Origin of 7 Operations & 12 Processes of Alchemy?

I was wondering if anyone knew the origins for these attributions? I think the zodiacal ones may be with Dom Pernety but I'm not sure.

Well the origins are actually pretty ancient. The seven operations come from VITRIOL... and the twelve are from the Zodiac so it is really a question as to the origin of the Zodiac.

What I know, though, is that the AlchemyLab people prefer the seven operations rather than the twelve!

I don't know if this is an origin, but it's an explanation:

Aries calcines because it is a fire sign and it is rules by mars which is also
firey and full of sulphur.

Taurus congeals because it is a fixed earth sign and ruled by venus.

Gemini fixing doesn't make sense since it is mutable air and ruled by mercury ???
At least it doesn't make sense to me.

Cancer dissolves because it is a cardinal water sign ruled by the moon.
Water is the universal solvent.

Leo digests because it is a fire sign ruled by the sun, but it's a fixed sign and I don't
understand how that goes with digestion. But heat and digestion make sense.
You can digest wine by placing it in the sun.

Virgo distills... well it's mutable earth ruled by mercury, so it kind of makes sense.

Libra sublimates because it's an air sign and ruled by venus. It sort of makes sense.

Scorpio seperates because it's a water sign ruled by mars. The fire of mars separates
the waters into the four elements (states of matter).

Sagittarius - filtration? I don't recall that one. Mine says ceration -
sag is a fire sign ruled by Jupiter.

Capricorn ferments because it is an earth sign ruled by saturn. I'd expect that to putrefy.

Aquarius multiplies because it is an air sign, but it's ruled by saturn which densifies;
I'd expect more multiplication if it were ruled by Jupiter which is expansive.

Pisces projection - it's mutable water ruled by Jupiter. That makes pretty good sense.
