I have to say, these are all very interesting pictures. I never really thought about the significance of the beheading until you brought it up. You're absolutely right though, it is a very common theme throughout history.

I suppose it could be symbolic of the ego...but I believe it is something wholly physical within a phase of the work...Chrysaor and Pegasus were both born from Poseidon and (the death of) Medusa. Chrysaor means "golden armament" while Pegasus means "spring well" or "strong"...because of this, Pegasus was known to cause water to spring forth from wherever his hoof struck the ground.... and not to beat a dead horse (no pun intended) but Gorgon (which is what Medusa is) means "terrible" & "loud roaring" in Greek and also bears a phonetic similarity to Georgian.
