The Bible
The Bible has already been dealt with here and there in various topics, but I though I'd get a thread going dedicated to this great book! Now when I say great don't get me wrong... I am not a creationist, nor a Christian. I fact I loath religion with all my heart!
I think the Bible is a misunderstood alchemical text! It is actually filled to the brim with alchemical subtexts, of which my personal favourite is in Genesis 32:30:
The Bible (KJV)
Could have posted this in alchemical texts, but opted not to because it is not, really, considered to be one...

Anyone else see the alchemical aspects of the Bible... and if so give some examples. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

Jesus an Alchemist?
When Jesus turned water into wine was that not transmutation?
How about the Bread and Fish miracle?

Re: The Bible
Oh there is thousands of passages worthy of discussion... I am about to go to bed... but feel free to interpret and bring up questions/answers/ideas regarding the alchemical allegories of the Bible in this topic and I will give you my 2 cents at a later date... and I am sure other members might as well.
Jesus was for sure an Alchemist - and even if he wasn't a real person of flesh and blood he is still a mirror image of Hermes.

Christian Alchemy
I feel that it is completely possible. Using alchemy as a means of spiritual refinement to obtain the prima materia(Divine Spirit), as I mentioned in my introduction, I am new and still learning, as far as practical alchemy goes, I might get into on the journey but not a main focus now. And as far as the bible is concerned I think a great deal of it involves alchemy (Jesus' miracles, resurection, ascension (Sp?))) and I find the whole thing fascinating. That and the church kind of scares me, I am not a church goer and I don't plan on it, completely an independant practitioner. I would love anyone and everyones ideas and opinions on this topic so PLEASE feel free to say anything!

Re: The Bible
The problem with the Bible is that there are so many versions and really the KJV is a bad one to use since it has been so heavily diluted... the Gnostic texts are of course very interesting.
Anyway for me the alchemical process is deeply connected with DNA and the microcosm of ourselves (and the macrocosm without), and a lot of this can be found in GENE-sis!
Tie this in with Jacob's Ladder, the double-helix and the pineal gland and the plot thickens...
By the way have you noticed Balinas and the similarities he has with Jesus?

Alchemy in the Bible
I just recieved from a source, Alchemylab , that Psalms 19 is the Alchemic Psalm, and that the ten commandments are potentially alchemic instructions and, according to some sources, the emerald tablet was given to Miriam, Moses' sister. Interesting, no?

Re: The Bible
Yes it is. The link that Moses got the Emerald Tablet comes from Freud I think... so it is just a theory... although it doesn't mean it is wrong.

I have always liked the Bee symbolisms... often found in Freemasonry, but I wonder if it can be found/applied in the symbolic world of Alchemy? The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. [There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which [is] as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, [and] rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth [is] from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD [are] right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD [is] pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD [is] clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD [are] true [and] righteous altogether. More to be desired [are they] than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: [and] in keeping of them [there is] great reward. Who can understand [his] errors? cleanse thou me from secret [faults]. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous [sins]; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Re: The Bible
The Bible is definitely interesting and most, if not all, great alchemists use Biblical or Christian symbolism. This is an area of love-hate relationship for me, especially the Old Testament, for an example I would seriously doubt that if God exists he would require people to read rather obscure old tales of Jewish folklore and judge according to scholarship in that area. The real value lies in wisdom and inspiration that can come from the Bible, among other things. There's definitely great source of wisdom in the Old Testament but at the same time I believe it's riddled with general human ignorance. The New Testament seems much clearer, since Christ is pretty clear overall.
I consider the Old Testament, and the God therein, to have a sense of the old grim god Saturn of law, bringer of restriction (actually, the Old Testament is partly just the old law-book of the Jews) while the New Testament represents the Sun, that dies and is reborn, in the form of Christ who brings salvation.
