Lisbon Globe
I found this symbol all over Lisbon when I was there the other week:
This one on the tomb of Vasco de Gama.
I suspect it is a depiction of their famous globe trekking, but I found it to be a beautiful image which easily can be read in an alchemical fashion. Anyone seen this before?
Also there is the Pine Cone all over:

Re: Lisbon Globe
Good evening.
The Jerónimos monastery presents a lot of alchemical symbols.
Here are the photos I took of the monastery.
The tomb of Vasco da Gama.
Here are the photos of interior pillars.
Here are sculptures visible on the interior walls.
At the entrance, a Greek siren.

Yes I was there for some time... quite an amazing place. A shame that there are so many tourists... guess they can't be blamed cuz I was one myself!Green Lion wrote:The Jerónimos monastery presents a lot of alchemical symbols.
All the streets have this cool symbol too:
It is the flag of Lisbon, yet reminds me about that ancient symbol The Swastika:

Very nice pictures, I'm jealous! What an interesting place though, full of alchemical symbols too.
Hehe, there's the pine cone again! I've come across this a couple of times over the past month, but I can't say what it means - sorry. Also there is the Pine Cone all over:
Re: Lisbon Globe
I did quite some posts on OF about the Pine Cone... in short it is the top of the Staff, the pineal gland, the Third Eye etc.
Re: Lisbon Globe
Wow that's a beautiful building and the sculptures too. I really wish we had architecture like that around where I am at. The closest Ive got near me is the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. And while its a beautiful building, it does not compare to this monastery. Thanks for sharing these images.

This is what I've heard too, and I believe it's the general consensus. We can take a look at the word "pineal" and instantly see the connection.
pineal
1681, in ref. to the gland in the brain, from Fr. pinéal, lit. "like a pine cone," from L. pinea "pine cone," from pinus "pine tree" (see pine (n.)).
However there are other interpretations of this odd thing. Some believe it's linked to sex, and the male reproductive organ - this is represented best by the Thyrsus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyrsus).
There's something else though, but I cannot say what it is or what it is meant to represent.
Deviadah, do you think you could port the post over to this board? I think it would make an interesting addition here.
