Naming Racehorses
My sister trains racehorses and one thing that is a source of vexation for her is coming up with names for them.I offered to help, giving the names and meanings from various pantheons I know.
I quite like the idea of seeing a Marduk or,more cheekily,an Asmodeus striding out onto the track.
I am asking for help here because her most recent acquisition has just escaped from being saddled with the moniker 'Sunshine Pretty Boy' and I've promised to help.
And I would love to see the names that a bunch of alchemists come up with.
The horse is quite unique,he's a young, black gelding with a blue eye.

Re: Naming Racehorses
Ha Ha! That's good.I wonder if I could sneak that past the both of them.
Racing folk arent reknowned for their literacy or knowledge of fantasy pop culture.
I tell you,Asmodeus lives high and large amongst that lot. They most probably shout him drinks all the time.

Re: Naming Racehorses
Its going from bad to worse. The latest suggestion from the owner is Baby Blue Angel.Sunshine Pretty Boy looks good by comparison. However in the light of the owners preferences I think I'll be avoiding any references to Dark Lords,Unspeakable Deities or associated demons.

Kinnaras. They're horse-headed Hindu spirits whose throats recite the vedas in perfection. Maybe even Savitar, the aspect of Surya that represents the principle of motion. Admittedly, "Sunshine Pretty Boy" sounds like a simplistic summation of the solar horse deities from way back when. I've a gnostic friend who has familiars with names like Floaty Boat and Mr. Whistle, a turtle and cockatiel, respectively. Sometimes, a little silliness can be just as warranted as dignity.
Re: Naming Racehorses
Having the name Kundalini reminds me of the dude with the mustache who lost his hand in Mad Max.
Re: Naming Racehorses
Thanks for those suggestions.They're excellent.
I feel if babyblueprettyboy misses out then her next few will step out with these. And my sister is more vedic in her spiritual outlook,so I feel she'll really like these.
Oh and Gunderic, the horses stablenames are so humble that I feel that at least their racing names deserve some mythic status. At the moment she has Thelma,Val,Polly and a Joanie.

Re: Naming Racehorses
Well,he's finally been named. An acceptable compromise was worked out.He will be racing under the name 'Blue Medicine' with a nod to American Indian culture.
Thanks to everyone for their contribution.

Not too bad of a name... even sounds a bit alchemical actually!monkeyblood wrote:Well,he's finally been named. An acceptable compromise was worked out.He will be racing under the name 'Blue Medicine' with a nod to American Indian culture.
