Well I was looking for something else and stumbled upon the following image called Standard of Ur (that dates from around 2600 - 2400 BCE):

Perhaps it is just me but doesn't it look like one of those mechanisms than are used for winding up toys?

Was there aliens that came here and educated the natives, or what?

Or is there a tech that was forgotten and re-discovered?

Regardless it is all very interesting!
