Spagyric Love Potion
Anyone made a love potion? What did you use, and what were the effects?
I'm not about to make one this moment, as I want a little more practice (and knowledge) first, but it'd be a cool longer-term project.
From what little I know at the moment, I think I'd use the following:
Vervain (earth) Moon, Venus
Dill (air) Mercury
Hyacinth (water) Venus
Licorice (water) Venus
Ginger (fire) Mars, Sun
Basil (fire) Mars
Mandrake (fire) Saturn, Mercury
[edit]
Dropped Ginseng, replaced with Ginger. Before there was too much Venus... now there's an interesting parallel... 2 Mars, 3 Venus, 2 Water, 3 Fire... which makes for a lovely symmetry because of Fire's association with Mars and Water's association with Venus. Jupiter is not represented, but I don't know where it could be.
Any ideas?

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Hi,
If it was for me, I would use a "quadripolar equilibrium", 1 fire, 1 air, 1 water, and 1 earth. All in Venus sphere of influence. You can also do a Libra/Taurus and general plant of Venus together if you use three plants.
Maybe one solar plant and a Jupiterian plant to make it grow ? If it's a long term ... then, Moon and Saturn.
But I would say, use plant for seduction/love first, then, use plants to make love grow, and then again, use them to stabilize.
And I would avoid Mars's plants...to much possibilities of conflicting influences.
Do you want to make a Venus ritual on these plants, or charge them with Akasha ?
Just some ideas ...

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Forgive my ignorance, but how would I go about charging them with Akasha?
As for one of each, all Venus... I'm not aware of any Air plants that are ruled by Venus and which are appropriate. The closest I can find on the Crucible Herb Guide is Motherwort, which is connected to fertility, which isn't really what I'm going for, but maybe it'll have to do.
In that case it'd be...
Motherwort (air) Venus (stimulates fertility)
Licorice (water) Venus (sexual potency)
Ginseng (fire) Venus (provides energy)
Vervain (earth) Moon, Venus (sex steroid, stimulates lactation)
That's really about the best I can come up with for a Venus of each element... and it seems to have a lot to do with reproduction, as opposed to, say, either romance or sex for the sake of sex. That is, it seems like it would be most appropriate as a potion for a couple who wishes to conceive, as opposed to someone who's looking to fall in love or have a bunch of sex but *not* end up pregnant.

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Hi,
Try a pink Rose for romance, or red Rose for passion, but not a fiery "incontrolable" passion.
That's wright it seems that more for a couple.
Do you know vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)) plant ? It's a fiery plant, good for man only, for seduction. Maybe take a look at it.
You can use vetiver for fire, an rose for air.
Ginseng seems to be more Martian.
For water ...Absinthe ? More hypnotic and feminine. But, with caution.
Vervain is very good for earth, and is not so lunar, the spirit of the plant is a lovely woman said to me a friend shaman.
Well, I hope it helps.
Regards
Salazius

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Interestingly application for this, it's not much of my area of expertise, but I would like to see how it turns out for you.
I just wanted to ask if you were planning on carrying out spagyric operations on each of these? That's probably how I would proceed, and after I've obtained my tincture or elixir, I would combine the elements appropriately and mix/match according to your goal.
I'm with Salazius on this, toss some rose in there. It should add a decent boost to your love potion, since roses are often associated with love, and they're also an aphrodisiac. I've actually got 5lb of rosa centifola (red rose petals) laying around that I need to start processing (fermenting more like).

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Well I don't plan to do this yet, at the moment it's an intellectual exercise to figure out how I *would* do it... might eventually do it, but not for a few months until I've gotten a few more operations under my belt. Too ambitious.
but yes, I would do operations on each. I was thinking something like using the same mercury to extract the sulfur of each one in turn (soak in alcohol distilled from red wine, strain, distill, use the collected alcohol for the next plant on the list, calcine the salt and mix half of it with the sulfur, recombine all of the above with the alcohol and go from there).
Good call on the rose petals. You think Absinthe rather than red wine?

Re: Spagyric Love Potion
Absinthe as plant, not alcohol.
Red wine for alcohol yes.
